Your Poem

You say: “Wow, how fast time flies.”

You can still see the worries clearly before you

And suddenly you’re in the present and completely free

And so happy that you get to make art

You say: “Wow, how quickly moments change.”

You say: “Yesterday you were still young and now somehow grown up.”

But deep down you know

That in your soul you’ll always remain who you’ve always been

And I know: Your love will never fade

Your art will endure

Your love will be seen

How wonderful that you’re sharing these words with us

You move on, thinking you’re too old

No longer fit the zeitgeist

And suddenly you’re in the present and completely free

And you feel that you are right, as the person you are

You tell yourself: “What’s the point?”

That you, of all people, are writing something

Among all the others

And suddenly you get A call from someone who loves you

And says, “Your world needs your song.”

You know: You never know the impact words can have

How wonderful that you’re sharing these lines with us

And I know: Your love will never fade

Your art will endure

Your love will be seen

How wonderful that you’re sharing these lines with us

You never imagined going through this depth

You never thought the mountain would lift

You had to go through tunnels, giants, and narcissists

With conformity, smiles, and all sorts of techniques

Perfection, procrastination, and self-forgetfulness

And suddenly you realize your voice is so important

And somehow, now you’re ready

After Hulk and all the giants

Who no longer frighten you

To continue on your path

And maybe someday tell your children about it

How important their voices are

You have no idea how much I long for I’ve been longing for your honest words

How wonderful that you’re sharing them with us
